HOW DOES A ROCKET ENGINE WORK? - Lauren

Like most engines, rockets burn fuel, but that's not all. In order to make the whole engine work during takeoff and landing, the engine has to follow a procedure. First, the engine has to turn the fuel into a hot gas, and then it has to push the gas out the back, making the rocket move forward. The jet engine needs air to work, but the rocket engine doesn't and it works in space where there is no air, the rocket engine carries everything it needs. There are two main engine types and all rockets use solid fuel because of the rocket engine, but the only rocket that uses liquid fuel is the Russian Soyuz rocket. The side of space a shuttle has 2 rocket boosters and they use solid fuels.
