LANDING ON EARTH - Lauren
Well, there are many ways of landing a rocket on earth such as a parachute-based landing, a landing using thrusters, a landing based on an aerodynamic lift, and many other ways yet to come to land a rocket back on earth. First off, let me briefly summarize how a parachute-based landing works. It works by drag caused by the blunt end of the crew module and the drag caused by a series of parachutes used in slowing down the rocket. Next, let me briefly summarize how a landing using thrusters works. It works by the Rocket Stage being slowed down with the help of rocket thrusters. Last but not least, let me briefly summarize how a landing based on aerodynamic lift works. It works by the landing and control of the vehicle being more or less like an airplane. It has landing gears and lands on a runway and here, deceleration occurs because of aerodynamic lift being produced. It may employ parachute also for velocity reduction. Typically, the type of landing used is chosen by the rocket scientists or the people who created the rocket based on the mission and the rockets individual needs.
Fun Fact: spacex has just recently made a reuseable rocket
